PRESS RELEASE

On November 16, Mr. Jerry Oberndorfer, Director of the Office of Humanitarian Assistance of the Department of State, Mr. Daniel Renna of the US Embassy in Armenia, representatives from the Ministry of Health of Armenia and local authorities, participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony participated in the city Shamlugh of Lori marz official opening the city Health Ambulatory. The renovation work was carried out by the Greek Medical Fund "Hippokrates" of Armenia. This project was financed by US Department of State.

The city of Shamlugh was founded at the end of 18th century as a copper mining town settled originally by ethnic Greeks. The health ambulatory, located in an abandoned hospital building, was in poor condition. The ambulatory has an appointed state nurse who works with Hellenicare´s Medical Mobile Unit (MMU) based at Hellenicare´s medical center in Alaverdi, Armenia. Hellenicare´s MMU visits Shamlugh monthly.

The newly renovated and reconstructed ambulatory will serve the population of Shamlugh and neighboring villages. The new facility will improve medical care by

  • Creating a safe and sanitary facility for the doctors and nurses to provide medical services;
  • Providing a suitable space from which Hellenicare´s Mobile Medical Unit can deliver services and distribute medicines and medical supplies.
